How to Measure for Hanfu

Hanfu sizing is unique because of its loose, flowing design. You need 5 measurements:

1. Height — Stand straight against a wall, measure from crown to floor.
2. Bust — Measure around the fullest part of the chest, keeping tape level.
3. Waist — Measure around the natural waistline (narrowest part).
4. Hip — Measure around the fullest part of the hips.
5. Sleeve Length — Measure from shoulder point to wrist with arm slightly bent.

Tip: Hanfu is designed to be loose. If between sizes, always size up — excess fabric can be adjusted with the sash, but too-small hanfu cannot be fixed.

How to Measure for Qipao

Qipao is fitted and requires precise measurements:

1. Bust — Fullest part, wearing the bra you will wear with the qipao.
2. Waist — Natural waistline.
3. Hip — Fullest part, approximately 8 inches below waist.
4. Shoulder Width — Across the back from shoulder point to shoulder point.
5. Dress Length — From shoulder to desired hem (knee, mid-calf, or ankle).
6. Sleeve Length — For long-sleeve qipao.

Tip: Qipao should fit snugly but allow you to sit comfortably. Add 0.5-1 inch to your measurements for comfort.

How to Measure for Kung Fu Uniforms

Kung fu uniforms need to allow full range of motion:

1. Height — Determines overall proportions.
2. Chest — Measure around the fullest part with arms relaxed.
3. Waist — Natural waistline.
4. Inseam — From crotch to ankle bone.

Tip: Kung fu pants should be loose enough for high kicks. If you practice splits, mention this when ordering — we can add extra fabric to the crotch.

Common Sizing Mistakes

Ordering your Western size — This is the #1 mistake. Always check the size chart.
Measuring over thick clothing — Measure over thin undergarments only.
Pulling the tape too tight — Keep the measuring tape snug but not compressed.
Not accounting for shoes — For floor-length costumes, measure wearing the shoes you will wear.
Ignoring sleeve length — Long sleeves are essential for authentic hanfu; too-short sleeves look wrong.
